New Philadelphia Sports Complex - Not just about South Philly Anymore

The "New" Philadelphia Sports Complex

Philadelphia is a city steeped in tradition.  It's been said that history, sports and food make this city run  (not necessarily in that order).

For years when anyone referred to the "Philadelphia Sports Complex" that meant South Philadelphia and specifically the intersection of Broad Street and Patteson Avenue.  There you would find the monoliths of Philly Sports: Veterans Stadium and the Spectrum Arena.

Fast forward to the 21st century and the streets and major teams are the same: Flyers, Phillies, Sixers, Eagles.  The arenas are new; the monoliths migrated across the street from that famed intersection. Now fans arrive at Citizens Bank Park, Wells Fargo Center, Lincoln Financial Field and Xfinity Center.  But there's another address, not in the old Sports Complex, a little farther out of the city that is getting Philly Sports Fans out of their Broad and Patteson comfort zone-- PPL Park. This state of the art arena on the banks of the Delaware River in Camden, NJ was built for the Major League Soccer team Philadelphia Union.  But it is also now the home to Legends Football and the Major League Lacrosse Championships.

So Philly Sports Fans are finding their way west to a new sports experience, not replacing the traditional, but redefining the term "Philadelphia Sports Complex".
It's not all about South Philly any more...
