The History
Merion Golf Club, in Ardmore, PA has a long and fabled history in the annals of professional golf.   18 USGA championship tournaments have been hosted at Merion since it first opened  in 1896  It has hosted more USGA championships than any other golf course in the United States.
Merion is where Bobby Jones completed the only grand slam in the history of golf in 1930.  No other golfer  has ever won all four majors in the same year since.  Other feats at Merion include Ben Hogan triumphant come back in the 1950 US Open after his near fatal car accident.  The great Jack Nicklaus described  Merion as, “Acre for acre, it may be the best test of golf in the world.” After his dramatic 18-hole playoff victory over Jack Nicklaus in the 1971 U.S. Open, Lee Trevino was quoted, “I love Merion, and I don’t even know her last name.”
